Zuck sees a bright AI future

AI could concentrate even more power in large companies and governments. Mark Zuckerberg offers a different vision: personal superintelligence distributed widely, giving individuals powerful tools to pursue their own goals and respond to challenges such as the cost of living and climate change.

Meta says it is building towards a future where everyone has a capable personal agent that understands them and what they care about. I have already experienced a small glimpse of this. With AI’s help, I built a working website backend and Slack bot—two tasks I would previously have found difficult.

If these tools become widely accessible, ordinary people, in small teams, may become more capable of creating businesses, solving problems and shaping society. The benefit would not simply be greater efficiency, but more power in individual hands.

This remains a vision, not proof that personal AI will reduce poverty or improve happiness. Meta has also made questionable bets before: Facebook and Instagram’s effects on society remain heavily debated, while its metaverse investment has struggled to fulfil its ambitions.

The future may be bright with AI—but only if its power is genuinely shared.
