Using Gilbert in ChatGPT and other MCP clients

Your client sends Gilbert the tool request needed to answer you. Depending on your request, this can include search words, a story identifier or link, topic, place, mood, publication dates and pagination settings. Please avoid including private or sensitive information. The connection needs no Gilbert account and does not ask for your name or email address.

We use the request to find and return published Gilbert stories. Results can include article text, publication information, public contributor credits, recorded categories and locations, images and original-source links. The connection cannot access our newsletter subscriber list, private feedback or correspondence, and cannot sign you up, send messages or publish anything.

Gilbert’s connection code does not write your search terms or conversation history to its application storage or logs. It uses an in-memory index of public stories, refreshed on demand after five minutes, and records application error codes without request or article contents. Five minutes describes index freshness, not a deletion deadline for hosting records.

Your chosen client processes your conversation under its own terms and privacy settings. For ChatGPT, see OpenAI’s privacy policy. Gilbert receives the arguments the client includes in a tool call; it does not independently request your full conversation.

Hosting and technical information

OpenAI hosts Gilbert through Sites, using infrastructure that includes Cloudflare. Hosting providers process technical information to deliver, operate, secure and troubleshoot the service. Their processing is separate from Gilbert’s application code. Sites does not provide a data-residency guarantee, and providers may process information outside the UK.

The Sites Data Processing Addendum provides for return or deletion of hosted personal data at the operator’s instruction after the agreement ends, subject to legal retention requirements. It does not specify a fixed retention period for technical logs. We do not promise that hosting records are deleted within five minutes or that no network information is processed. Business contact details and sponsorship

Glenn sometimes contacts a business about supporting Gilbert when its work appears relevant. We find work contact details on public business websites and use public company records to check the organisation. We keep the business name, relevant contact name and role, work email address, source link and a record of our messages and any response. We do not add these contacts to our newsletter.

We use this information to make a relevant sponsorship approach, handle replies and avoid contacting someone who has said no. Our legal basis is legitimate interests: finding business partners to support Gilbert, while respecting the privacy and preferences of the people we contact. We limit unsolicited email approaches to corporate organisations; a public email address alone is not permission to contact a sole trader or an individual subscriber.

We use Hostinger for email and OpenAI's Codex to help research prospective sponsors, draft messages and organise outreach, so these providers may process business contact details and relevant correspondence. We also use Firecrawl to research publicly available business information. These services may process information outside the UK, including in the United States. We keep outreach records while an approach or partnership conversation remains active. When it closes, we review the records and remove information no longer needed. Any records kept longer must be needed for an ongoing partnership, accounting or legal requirements, or to handle a complaint. If you opt out, we keep only the details needed to honour that choice and evidence it, rather than adding you back to a future contact list.

You do not need to reply. You can object to direct marketing at any time, without giving a reason: reply to our email or contact hello@goodnewsgilbert.co.uk and we will stop. You can also ask to see or correct your personal information, or request deletion or restriction of its use, subject to the rights and exceptions in data protection law. You may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office. We do not use email tracking pixels or make solely automated decisions about contacts with legal or similarly significant effects.

Reporting enquiries and sources

Good News Gilbert is operated by UKOMV Limited (15854172). We use relevant professional details found on public websites, supplied by sources or received through referrals to ask factual questions, check evidence and improve our reporting. We keep the relevant name, role, organisation, work contact, its source, correspondence and dates, and notes connecting the enquiry to an article. We also use these records to avoid duplicate or unwanted approaches. Source contacts are not added to our newsletter.

Our lawful basis is legitimate interests: checking and improving our reporting while respecting sources' privacy and contact preferences.

We use Hostinger for email, OpenAI's Codex to research, prepare messages and review relevant correspondence, and Supabase for private contact and reporting records. Working copies may also be held in Glenn's project files. Firecrawl may assist public-web research. Relevant answers may inform our articles; attribution and confidentiality conditions are checked before publication. Please avoid sending sensitive personal details about other people in routine replies.

These services may process information outside the UK, including in the United States. Hostinger and Supabase publish data-processing terms with contractual transfer safeguards, including standard contractual clauses and the UK Addendum where applicable. We use Codex through a consumer ChatGPT Pro account under OpenAI's Europe privacy policy, which describes adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses with the UK Addendum for relevant transfers. On 6 October 2026 we opted out of model training for new chats and Codex tasks. This does not delete earlier material or change its past use. We keep records while the enquiry is active. When it closes, we review them and remove information no longer needed. We retain relevant evidence while needed to substantiate published reporting, handle corrections or complaints, or meet legal requirements, recording why continued retention is necessary. We keep the minimum contact and suppression information needed to honour a request for no further approaches.

You do not have to reply. You can ask us to stop, object to our use of your information, or request access, correction, deletion or restriction by replying or emailing hello@goodnewsgilbert.co.uk. Rights depend on the applicable law and circumstances. You may complain to the ICO.
