A £360 grant helps 25 families find connection in Wrockwardine
For families who can feel isolated, a regular place to meet can make everyday life less lonely. In Wrockwardine, the Extra Chromie Club has welcomed 25 families to monthly meetups and organised trips for members.
A new Telford & Wrekin Council report describes how a £360 grant helped establish the group for people with Down’s syndrome, their families and carers. Organiser Clare Hollinshead says the gatherings have strengthened relationships and created a network where families share experiences and feel less alone.
The council’s grant register confirms the £360 allocation through councillor Gareth Thomas. The club’s own next event listing makes the shared activities tangible: music, games and pumpkin decorating at Wrockwardine Village Hall on 25 October, with snacks and drinks included.

The benefits are the organiser’s account, rather than findings from an independent evaluation. Plans for a young adults forum are still ambitions.
What already exists is modest but useful: recurring opportunities to spend time together, with people who understand similar experiences.
