Pantside neighbours keep helping families after the fire
After a fire destroyed homes in Pantside, near Newbridge, neighbours started collecting money and everyday items for affected families. Nearly two months later, that community effort is still going.
Reporting on 2 October, the Caerphilly Observer described councillors thanking the group for continuing its collections after the 12 August blaze. Local councillor Gary Johnston said the response had also brought neighbours closer together.
The help began with immediate practical needs. The Observer’s August reporting recorded Newbridge Memo opening its doors for showers, free food and drinks and a children’s play day. Newbridge Rugby Football Club also offered its clubhouse, showers and refreshments.

Recovery is still unfinished. Council leader Jamie Pritchard said one household continued to receive housing support, and people who lost their homes had been offered trauma and wellbeing services. Needs could change as families recovered, he said.
The collections cannot replace lost homes. They do show neighbours continuing to turn concern into practical help after the emergency has passed.
