Northern Ireland launches plan to strengthen breastfeeding support

Northern Ireland has launched a new Breastfeeding Action Plan aimed at making practical support easier to find and creating more welcoming environments for parents who choose to breastfeed.

Health Minister Mike Nesbitt introduced the plan at Breastival in Stormont. It was developed by the Department of Health and the Public Health Agency with input from health professionals, community organisations and voluntary groups.

Planned actions include better training for staff, stronger community support, public-awareness work and measurable targets. The programme also seeks to reduce inequalities, normalise breastfeeding and improve the consistency of help available before and after birth.
