Welsh workplace learning gains a new commitment at Natural Resources Wales
Learning Welsh can feel less daunting when colleagues make room to practise. Natural Resources Wales has signed the Twf workplace charter with trade union partners, adding a shared commitment to its existing language support.
The agreement, signed on 15 October, uses TUC Cymru’s framework for fair access, leadership and continued learning. It asks employers and unions to help workers use Welsh confidently in everyday working life.
NRW’s 2025–26 report records 139 colleagues enrolled in language learning, from entry to proficiency levels. Its Clwb Clebran offers short online conversations, quizzes and workplace vocabulary sessions.

These activities predate the signing. Enrolment was four lower than the previous year, and the new charter’s effects are still to be demonstrated.
Graduate Daniel Goodbourn offers a personal example of what existing support means: he says classes and daily exposure to Welsh are building his confidence and vocabulary for work.
The commitment now gives staff and unions a shared basis for making those everyday opportunities more widely available.
