Lottie the "Woolly Lambmoth" produced 50 jumpers!

A Lincoln Longwool sheep named Lottie—affectionately nicknamed the "Woolly Lambmoth"—was sheared at her home on Black Barn Therapy Farm at Old Bolingbroke, Lincolnshire, producing one of the largest fleeces ever recorded in the UK. Sheep shearer Carl Sutton clipped the 64 sq ft fleece off the three-year-old in a single 8ft by 8ft piece, with the raw wool weighing in at 7.4kg. The fleece was reportedly so enormous that three people could comfortably lie down on it.

Sutton, who shears Lottie once a year, was amazed by the sheer volume. He said the fleece "just kept coming and coming" and reckoned it was big enough to make at least 50 jumpers. He noted it was the biggest fleece they'd ever taken off a sheep, describing how it kept coming off all around them on what happened to be a very hot day.

The Lincoln Longwool is a fitting record-holder, as it is the largest native breed of sheep in the UK, with mature rams weighing in the region of 19–24 stone. Lottie's owner, Angie Beale, said the family had raised her from a lamb and that her mother had also produced huge fleeces—suggesting the mammoth wool runs in the family.
