GSK to invest £400m in UK life sciences with new Cambridge research centre

The British drugmaker GSK is investing £400 million in UK life sciences over the next three years, including a new research and development centre in Cambridge.

The pharmaceuticals company will move more than 1,000 scientists to the new 300,000-square-foot site on the Cambridge biomedical campus, one of the largest in Europe. The campus is home to more than 22,000 people working in life sciences, over 470 biopharma, biotech and AI companies, and treats more than a million patients each year.

The new site will feature state-of-the-art, tech-enabled laboratories supporting research in oncology, respiratory conditions, hepatology, vaccines and HIV. Chief executive Luke Miels said the investment will help GSK develop drugs more quickly and deliver new, competitive products.

The move brings more scientists to the UK's "golden triangle" of Cambridge, Oxford and London, where teams will have access to what GSK describes as a world-class ecosystem of biomedical expertise.
