Free holiday activities reach more than 11,000 Bradford children
More than 11,000 children and young people joined free holiday activities across Bradford district this summer, with healthy meals included. The council says 134 local organisations helped deliver the programme, from sport and crafts to cooking and outdoor adventures.
The Holiday Activities and Food scheme reached 11,468 participants. Alongside clubs, family days brought games, dance and sport to ten green spaces. Trips to Buckden House in the Yorkshire Dales offered climbing, archery and bushcraft.
Local providers make the programme practical. Bradford’s WomenZone, for example, describes team challenges, family activities and outings among its holiday sessions.

The council’s summer booking guidance offered free places to children receiving benefits-related free school meals or with special educational needs and disabilities. Places were limited; the participation total does not show how many eligible children missed out or measure lasting wellbeing gains.
Christmas clubs are planned, with bookings opening later this year. For the families already reached, the summer offer combined a meal with time to play, explore and try something new.
