A children’s book is giving families better language for difficult feelings

'Mom’s Cloud and the Beach Adventure' was written by mental-health advocate and Drop Dead Generous community contributor Kendall Concini-Moore, and her daughter for children aged four to eight or anyone ready to have meaningful conversations.

The book uses the friendly idea of “having clouds” to help children understand sadness without fear or shame.

The message has travelled quickly. In six months, over 500 copies were distributed to libraries, schools, bookstores, mental health centres and over 34 state libraries.

Each book sale contributes proceeds to further acts of kindness too! For example, supported by a $500 grant from Drop Dead Generous, Kendall and her daughter bought breakfast for 12 librarians and gave out cloud plushies, ornaments and printables.

As Glenn, creator of Good News Gilbert, says: “I’m 30 and still learning to be more in touch with how I feel.” That is why this work done by Kendall matters so much, especially to children. Feelings become easier to accept when we have gentle words for them.
