Sutton Husband's CPR Saves Wife's Life After Cardiac Arrest at Home

A Sutton man saved his wife's life by performing CPR after she suffered a sudden cardiac arrest at their home.

Chris, 54, found his wife Kat, 47, unconscious in the bathroom after hearing a thud. "I thought she was dead. It was so frightening," he said. With no pulse, he immediately called 999 and followed the call handler's instructions, performing chest compressions until paramedics arrived.

London Ambulance Service crews delivered defibrillator shocks and rushed Kat to St George's Hospital in Tooting, where she made a full recovery. Paramedics confirmed that without Chris's immediate CPR, Kat would not have survived.

The couple recently reunited with the paramedics who treated her. "It was so lovely to meet the crews and the people who saved me that day," Kat said. "I'm so grateful to them for all their efforts."

Advanced Paramedic Andrew Elphinstone praised Chris's actions: "If Chris hadn't done CPR then Kat would have had a different outcome. Everything he did helped save her life."

The London Ambulance Service is encouraging Londoners to learn CPR through their Londoner Lifesaver programme, while the London Ambulance Charity is installing 200 public defibrillators across the capital.
