A community freezer brings Llanelli’s shared meals home
People in Llanelli can now take home volunteer-cooked meals and pay what they can afford. A community freezer at the town’s restored railway Goods Shed extends a kitchen that has served more than 1,300 two-course meals since February.
Cegin y Bobl and the Goods Shed Trust offer dishes including vegetable lasagne and seasonal soups. The suggested donation is £2, or three meals for £5. Collection is Wednesday to Saturday, 10am–2pm.
The charity’s own update describes pupils on work experience helping volunteers prepare butternut squash soup. Its wider programme uses practical cooking sessions to build people’s skills and confidence.

The meal total covers the existing community kitchen, rather than proving the new freezer’s impact. For now, the freezer adds a way to collect food beyond the Monday shared meal.
Volunteer Montse says learning to use the whole vegetable, even carrot leaves, has reduced waste at home. “This knowledge really gives me more confidence in the kitchen.” The benefit travels home with the cooks, too.
