Inclusive playground improvements open across South Norfolk

Children and families are already using newly upgraded play areas across South Norfolk after the first stages of a £228,000 improvement programme were completed. Local playgrounds support exercise, outdoor time and social connection, but ageing or inaccessible equipment can prevent some children from joining in.

South Norfolk Council is using government funding and resident input to make its sites safer and more inclusive. Hundreds of residents voted on preferred designs for eight play areas. New equipment has now been installed at four locations, while surfacing work has been completed at three others. Every refurbished site includes inclusive equipment. Two locations are also receiving wildflower planting, new trees and altered grass cutting to support wildlife.

The strongest feature is the combination of public consultation with visible delivery: families are using completed spaces rather than waiting on a distant promise. However, popularity has only been described informally, and no participation or accessibility outcomes have yet been published.

Work on four remaining sites is due to begin after the summer holidays and finish by the end of September, subject to the weather.
