Hounslow makes one bulky-waste collection free

Published Last updated

Hounslow households can now book one free bulky-waste collection each year, covering up to five eligible items that cannot fit in the normal rubbish service.

The live offer removes the standard £41 charge for a first collection. Residents can list furniture, mattresses, bicycles, televisions, computers and some white goods, then choose a weekday collection date by phone. Items must be left at the agreed point and meet size and weight limits.

The council is pairing doorstep collection with reuse options: good items should still be donated, while Pop Up Tips accept up to six items for repair, recycling or disposal. That gives households a practical route before unwanted goods become street clutter.

There are clear limits. Fridge and freezer pickups are temporarily suspended because specialist recycling capacity is short, hazardous and building waste are excluded, and extra collections remain chargeable. Even within those boundaries, the scheme turns a paid service into a yearly household entitlement and makes responsible disposal easier to reach.
