Golf coach rescues two boa constrictors found on Darlington course

A children’s golf lesson in Darlington took an unexpected turn when a 12-year-old girl’s tee shot landed beside a six-foot boa constrictor hidden in the long grass.

Golf professional Aaron Cox was leading the lesson at Blackwell Grange Golf Club when the snake was discovered on 13 June. He carefully moved the ball away, flattened the surrounding grass and guided the boa into a box so it could be removed safely from the course.

Just one week later, a second and reportedly larger boa constrictor was found near the same part of the course. Cox again stepped in, safely placing the snake into a box before taking both animals to a local reptile specialist. The RSPCA said it was concerned that the non-native snakes may have been deliberately abandoned and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Sadly, both snakes later died after being found to be seriously ill. However, Cox’s quick response ensured that they were removed from danger and given professional attention rather than being left exposed on the course. The incident also highlights the importance of contacting an animal charity or specialist when an owner can no longer care for an exotic pet.
